Doll Makers & Character Creators
Face, hair, whole vibe, built from nothing. These are the games where no character exists until you make one, which is why people use them for profile pictures and original characters.

What a doll maker actually is
In every other game here somebody has already drawn the girl. In a doll maker nobody has. You start with a blank face and set the shape of it, the eyes, the eyebrows, the skin tone, the mouth, the hair, and only then do you reach the clothes.
That is a slower game and a far more personal one. What you end up with is not a model wearing your outfit, it is a character that did not exist half an hour ago.
The genre has collected a pile of names over twenty years and they all mean roughly this: doll maker, doll creator, character creator, avatar maker, OC maker, and on some sites meiker. If you arrived searching for any of those, this is the shelf.
Where the depth is
Vintage Fairy builds a face and then dresses it in Edwardian and 1920s clothing, with wings chosen last. Grimm Beauty covers the whole Grimm canon and is wide enough to build the tales nobody has illustrated. Viking Woman has the deepest braid set on the site and a Norse wardrobe with real fastenings. Goddess Freya adds the mythological layer on top of it. Pixie Friends is the widest canvas here and the wing set is genuinely varied.
Those five are all from Azalea's Dolls, and that is not a coincidence. Across a year of data their games hold people for around seventy seconds a visit while everything else on the site sits between twelve and nineteen. Depth of options is the entire reason.
Making a profile picture that works
A profile picture is cropped to a circle and shown at about forty pixels. That is the whole design brief and it is worth playing to.
Keep the face large in the frame. Choose a hair colour that separates from the background, because a dark character on a dark ground disappears at small sizes. Skip fine detail on the outfit, since none of it survives the crop. Strong eyes and one memorable colour do all the work.
Pokegirl is the best PFP source here: anime eyes hold their shape at small sizes better than realistic faces do.
When you are happy, screenshot and crop square. There is no export button in these games and there never was.
Building an OC
If the character is for a story, a roleplay or fan art rather than a profile, spend the time on the face and give yourself a version you can redraw.
The point of an original character is that they stay recognisable, and what makes them recognisable is usually two or three decisions: an eye colour, a hairstyle, one accessory. Not the outfit, which you will change constantly.
Write those three things down. It sounds excessive and it is the difference between a character and a picture.
Related shelves
For anime and manga faces specifically, anime has the deeper set. For non-human characters, wings and horns and tails, fantasy. And once the character exists, dress up and fashion are where you take her shopping.
Frequently asked questions
Which doll makers are the most used here?
Fairy Tale High, Chibi Doll: Avatar Creator, Pin-up Jessica, Grimm Beauty, Dark Mage Creator and Goddess Freya. Chibi Doll is the one to start with if you want a profile picture rather than a full character.
Do doll makers work on a phone?
They do, but these are the games where a bigger screen helps most. A face editor with sliders for eye shape, brow angle and jaw is fiddly under a thumb.
What is a doll maker?
A game where you build a character from scratch, so face, eyes, skin tone, hair and body, before dressing it. Also called a doll creator, a character creator, an avatar maker or a meiker.
What is the difference between a doll maker and a dress up game?
A dress up game hands you a character somebody else drew. A doll maker has no character until you make one, which is why the results feel like yours.
How do I make a PFP with these games?
Build the character, keep the face large in the frame, then screenshot and crop square. Strong eyes and a hair colour that contrasts with the background survive the small circular crop; fine detail does not.
Can I make an OC for a story or roleplay?
Yes, that is what most people use these for. Decide the two or three details that make the character recognisable and keep those fixed across outfits.
Which doll maker has the most options?
Grimm Beauty and Viking Woman have the deepest option sets, and Pixie Friends has the largest canvas. All three come from Azalea's Dolls, which are the longest-played on the site.
Do these games have different skin tones?
The good ones do. Older creators are more limited, which is usually visible from the first screen.
Can I make a male character?
In several of them, yes. The creators with a body-type switch on the first screen build male characters as fully as female ones.
Is there a save or export button?
No. These games never had one. A screenshot is the save, and it is also the file you upload wherever you needed the picture.
