Matching profile pictures are the reason this one exists, and it is built for the job rather than adapted to it.

Two characters in one frame means the decisions are relational. Whether they share a palette, whether the hair colours sit next to each other comfortably, who is lighter and who is darker, how the two silhouettes read as a shape. A pair that works is almost always one where something repeats and something contrasts, and neither happens by accident.

Build both roughly first, then go back and adjust each one against the other. Finishing one completely before starting the second is the mistake that costs the most time.
