The costume language of a space opera is unusually consistent: layered robes, utility belts, worn armour, muted natural colours with one accent, and very little that looks new.

That consistency is what makes this creator work. Build inside those conventions, keep everything slightly weathered, limit the palette to two or three tones, and the character will read as belonging to that world immediately. Reach for bright clean colour and it will not, no matter what pieces you use.
