A fairy built in layers: soft pastel pieces underneath, petal skirts and flowing shapes over the top, so the outfit is assembled rather than chosen.

That layering is the difference between this and a costume. A petal skirt on its own reads as fancy dress; the same skirt over something plain, with the colours a step apart rather than matched, reads as a character. The game gives you enough of both halves to see it happen.
