Pastel Summer

Pastel removes contrast, which is the tool most outfits rely on to have a shape at all.

With every colour at the same low intensity, nothing stands forward and nothing recedes, so the picture can easily go flat. The way through is to make the contrast physical instead of chromatic: a crisp fabric against a soft one, a structured piece against a loose one, a hard edge next to a rounded hem. Then the outfit has depth without any strong colour in it.

That is a genuinely useful skill, and a pastel wardrobe is the only place you are forced to learn it.
