Two styles that could not be further apart, worn by the same person, which is more interesting than it sounds.

Rebel is about breaking the code: damage, hardware, black, a refusal to look neat. Preppy is the code itself: collars, knitwear, pleats, an inherited air. Moving a character from one to the other is not a costume change, it is a series of small decisions, and the halfway point is where it gets strange and good.

Try stopping in the middle. A preppy outfit with one genuinely rebellious element is a better look than either end of the scale.
