The trap is treating armour as decoration. A princess in a breastplate reads as a costume unless the rest of the outfit agrees with it, and the game gives you enough plain, heavy pieces to make that work if you want to. Or you can ignore all of it and dress five people for a banquet, which is also a legitimate answer.
