Armour is clothing with a purpose, and that purpose shows in every line of it. Plates follow the body because they have to. Straps exist because something needs holding. Nothing is decorative by accident.

That is why armour is so satisfying to style and so easy to get wrong. Add ornament with no function and it stops looking like protection and starts looking like a costume. Keep everything justified, let the decoration live in the metalwork rather than on top of it, and the character reads as somebody who actually wears this.

The royal half should survive in one element, not in ten. A colour, a crest, a single piece of gold.
