Being given a piece you did not choose is the most useful constraint a dress up game can offer, and it is rare.

An open wardrobe lets you return to the same instincts every time. A surprise piece does not. Suddenly you are looking at the clothes differently, searching for what works with this rather than what you already like, and the result is usually something you would never have assembled on purpose.

Some surprises are easy and some are awkward. The awkward ones are the reason to play it more than once.
