A skating costume has a job that a party dress does not: it has to work while spinning, and it has to be warm enough to stand around in beforehand.

That practical edge makes this more interesting than a plain winter wardrobe. Long and heavy is out. Short and thin is cold. The answer is usually somewhere around a fitted body with something light that moves, plus a layer you would keep on at the rink side, and the game gives you enough range to find it.
