Villains in summer colours, which is a better idea than it first appears, because every one of these characters is defined by a dark palette.

Take that away and you find out how much of the character was the colour and how much was the shape. Some survive it completely: the silhouette does all the work and pale linen reads just as sharp. Others fall apart the moment the black goes, and that is the interesting result rather than a failure. Fruit-toned makeup is in the rail and it pushes further in the same direction.

Play it as an experiment rather than a makeover and it gets much better.
