A ballgown and a stage outfit are built for opposite things. One is meant to be looked at while standing still, the other has to work under lights, in motion, from a distance.

That is the whole premise, and it makes the game better than a straight princess wardrobe. Everything that made the ballroom look work, the delicacy, the detail, the sweep, becomes a liability on stage.
